American Kurdish Information Network

The American Kurdish Information Network (AKIN), a non-profit organization, was established in 1993 to serve as a bridge over which friendships and knowledge are shared between the people of the United States and Kurds from Turkey, Iran, Iraq, and Syria. AKIN’s aim is to increase awareness among the U.S. public about Kurds’ daily realities, while creating space for greater reflection among Kurds about the current events in their homelands. Comprised of Kurdish Americans and recent refugees from all walks of life, including entrepreneurs, blue- and white-collar workers, and students, AKIN collects, translates, and disseminates information about all Kurds. In Kurdistan specifically, AKIN hopes that its work will encourage an end to the violence and respect for the will of the people.

A grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported a Kurdish film festival in Berlin.
