The Audre Lorde Project

The Audre Lorde Project (ALP) is a lesbian, gay, bisexual, two-spirit, trans, and gender non-conforming (LGBTSTGNC) people of color center for community organizing, focusing on the New York City area. ALP’s mission is to work for community wellness and progressive social and economic justice through mobilization, education, and capacity-building. ALP is the only intergenerational LGBTSTGNC people of color-led community organizing center in New York City, and one of the few in the country. The organization envisions a world in which all systematic oppression has ended, and everyone has enough to survive and the right to live where, with whom, and how they choose. It believes this vision will ultimately be achieved through local organizing efforts driven by communities most affected by systematic oppression.

A 2016 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported ALP’s Safe Neighborhood Campaign, which amplifies community-led safety strategies that build collective safety and seek to transform an economy of violence, despite the rise of gentrification displacing communities and the breaking down of social safety networks.
