Amnesty International

Amnesty International’s (AI) mission is to undertake targeted research, advocacy, and campaigning focused on preventing and ending grave human rights abuses. AI investigates, monitors, and exposes human rights abuses, while mobilizing over 3 million activists globally to help transform societies and create a safer, more just world. AI envisions a world in which every person—regardless of race, religion, gender, or ethnicity—enjoys all of the rights enshrined in international human rights law.

A 2021 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported Amnesty International’s crisis response work.

A 2018 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported the Crisis in Yemen campaign. The funds helped Amnesty’s crisis investigators advocate for children and families in Yemen.

A 2018 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported the Individuals at Risk program, which investigates and campaigns for the release of victims of human rights abuses around the world.

A 2015 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported costs associated with AIUSA’s Security with Human Rights program. This included design and production of campaign materials, online/digital graphics and publicity materials, and necessary travel, meetings, and associated overhead costs.

A 2014 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported two of Amnesty International’s campaigns to end human rights violations committed by the U.S. government in the name of national security. One campaign focuses on reforming the U.S. drone strike program to prevent extrajudicial executions. The other campaign is focused on defending the right to a fair trial, closing Guantanamo, and ending indefinite detention.

A 2013 grant supported two of Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa campaigns: ending restrictions on education for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and providing public education and advocacy on the Obama administration’s use of lethal drones strikes. A 2012 grant supported AI’s Security with Human Rights campaign, which seeks to combat human rights abuses committed in the name of U.S. National Security. A 2010 grant supported Amnesty International’s work in the Middle East and North Africa region and its work advocating for Universal Jurisdiction.
