Global Exchange

Global Exchange is a membership-based international human rights organization dedicated to promoting social, economic, and environmental justice around the world, as enshrined by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This document – signed by dozens of countries, including the US, at the founding of the United Nations – covers economic rights as well as political liberties. The right to free education, a job, and an adequate standard of living are just as essential to human dignity as freedom of speech and association.

As the world increasingly recognizes the illegality of settlements in the Occupied Territories and the horror of the siege on Gaza, economic pressure on companies profiting from the occupation – companies who make their money in settlements with preferential trade agreements and cheap labor; who make their money on the infrastructure of oppression, through checkpoint and military equipment, construction equipment to build the dividing wall, and home demolitions – is a growing and creative way to promote human rights in the region. Global Exchange’s “Activist in Residence” program will bring a skilled researcher from the Israeli-based organization Coalition of Women for Peace to the U.S. to conduct workshops and trainings about who profits from the occupation with the goal of strengthening and building the connections for an international movement for economic justice
