Hutan-Kinabatangan Orangutan Conservation Programme

Hutan – Kinabatangan Orangutan Conservation Programme is a grassroots organization that has been working for wildlife and habitat conservation in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo since 1998. Hutan has developed a holistic approach, combining scientific research, wildlife and habitat protection, policy work, capacity-building, and environmental education, as well as community outreach and development. The organization works with a wide range of partners, including communities, government agencies, local industries, and international groups, to mitigate the effects of forest fragmentation and find realistic solutions for the long-term conservation of the Kinabatangan’s unique biodiversity.

A 2016 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported Hutan’s efforts to restore about half an acre of wildlife habitat. Tree seedlings, purchased from a local nursery, came from native tree species, known to be favorite food sources for orangutans and other wildlife.
