Magnum Foundation

Magnum Foundation expands creativity and diversity in documentary photography, activating new audiences and ideas through the innovative use of images. Through grant-making, mentoring, and creative collaborations, the foundation partners with socially engaged image-makers experimenting with new models for storytelling. It is committed to supporting a global network of social justice and human rights-focused photographers. One of its central programs, the Photography and Social Justice Fellowship, brings together photographers working in their own communities around the world to help them develop their skills and think through how their work will most effectively address issues and reach audiences. This program also supports former fellows as they become local leaders and mentors to others, and it fosters a vital, energetic, and committed international community of storytellers. Particularly for those working in regions where there are limited resources to sustain their work, this network is indispensable.

A 2018 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported the Magnum Foundation’s efforts to amplify the work of photographers from the Global South who are passionate about challenging injustice, pursuing social equality, and advancing human rights through photography.
