Offline: Baghdad (via the Crimes of War Project)

Offline: Baghdad was a film festival in Italy and the first of its kind. The festival featured 27 movies, with 16 Iraqi directors, fixers, and journalists in attendance, and an audience of over 300 people. Offering a rare combination of Iraqi artists and international viewers, it strove to be “not just another film festival.” One of the main aims of Offline: Baghdad was to bring the public directly into contact with Iraqis and allow both parties to engage in debates to deepen understandings of today’s Iraq.

The Cultures of Resistance Network helped make this event possible by bringing Iraqi directors, film professionals, and journalists to the festival, allowing them to further public discussion about the reality that faces their country.

The Crimes of War Project served as a fiscal sponsor for this grant.
