Public Citizen

Public Citizen serves as the people’s voice in the nation’s capital and works to empower people to make their government serve their rights and needs. Since its founding in 1971, Public Citizen has worked to ensure that all Americans are represented in the halls of power and has successfully challenged the abusive practices of the pharmaceutical, nuclear, and automobile industries, among many others. Public Citizen is organized into five policy groups: Congress Watch, Energy and Climate, Global Trade Watch, Health Research Group, and Litigation Group. The organization does not participate in partisan political activities or endorse any candidates for elected office. Public Citizen accepts no government or corporate money, instead relying solely on foundation grants, publication sales, and support from its 100,000 members.

A 2012 grant from the Cultures of Resistance Network supported the production of a video as part of a social media campaign aimed at generating public awareness about the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) “free trade” agreement, which has been largely negotiated behind closed doors.
